With over 90 towns and villages to explore, white sandy patrolled beaches to walk at sunrise, pristine surf, numerous boutique wineries to visit, a lake twice the size of Sydney Harbour and mountain lookouts to enjoy, Lake Macquarie has been blessed with nature’s gifts and a retirees’ delights.
On 17 acres located in the heart of this paradise, in a tranquil rural setting with its picturesque country and woodland views, horses (and kangaroos) grazing to the backdrop of bell birds singing, sits Cooranbong Gardens.
Nearby are the town centres of Cooranbong, Morisset and Dora Creek offering all the services and necessities from medical centres, pharmacies, clubs and beauticians to bakeries, Woolworths and liquor stores.
Morisset rail station provides frequent services to both Sydney and Newcastle while the M1 motorway is easily accessed nearby and will have you in Wahroonga in about 50 minutes.
The Lake Macquarie area boasts 5 golf courses, numerous bowling clubs, 10 yacht and sailing clubs, RSLs, churches of all denominations, libraries and excellent medical facilities.
The Lake
The centre piece of Lake Macquarie is the lake itself, twice the times larger than Sydney Harbour (and is the largest permanent salt water lake in the Southern Hemisphere. Great for fishing, swimming and boating) and almost completely flanked by cycle and walkways. Lake Macquarie is Australia’s largest coastal salt water lagoon. Located in the Hunter Region of New South Wales, it covers an area of 110 square kilometres (42.5 sq mi) and is connected to the Tasman Sea by a short 380m wide channel at Swansea and Lakes Entrance. The bridges over the channel open to allow yachts and larger water craft into and out of the lake.
Beaches
The coastline of Lake Macquarie and the Central Coast boasts some of the most pristine and famous beaches in Australia. Explore Caves Beach, take the dog for a walk along Budgewoi, have a surf or swim at Soldiers Beach or head to Catherine Hill Bay to take photos of the old coal loading Jetty. And in the winter months take a morning stroll and sip a coffee as you watch the whales migrate past Norah Head lighthouse.
Mountains
The Watagan Mountains are just minutes away and offer the complete escape from the pressures of city life with graded forest trails, pristine streams, spectacular waterfalls, and abundant native flora and fauna.
